Board games weekends: 3rd Edition

img_1309Times Square Shopping Centre held its third edition of the Board Games Weekend from 22nd to 24th July 2016 where the highlights included a Chess Tournament, Tamiya Super Series competition and Hot Wheels Drag Challenge. The event’s co-organizers consisted of the Brunei Chess Federation and the Department of Co-curriculum Education for the Chess Tournament and PEMKAR Brunei for the latter two competitions. Moreover, the public were also invited to join in the fun in playing a variety of board games for free such as Monopoly, Snake and Ladders as well as Jengga to name a few.

img_1422The prize presentation for all the competitions was held on the last day of the event. Prizes were presented by Co-curriculum department of Education, Ministry of Education, Awg Haji Aziz Bin Hj Nayan for the Chess Tournament whereas a representative from Times Square Management was giving away the prizes to the winners of the PEMKAR racing competitions.

For the Rapid Chess Competition Open category, the winners were Mohd Aliuddin Haji Azahari, Pengiran Sallehuddin and Awangku Hafizdon for first, second and third place respectively whereas the winner for the Junior Under-14 category was Kamarularffin Haji Kipli. Moreover, the winner for the Student Under-20 category was Mohd Zekree while Japar Timbang won the Veterans Above-50. img_1459

For the Blitz Chess competitions, Qadir bin Haji Norman won the Under 10 category whereas the Junior Under-14 winner was Kamarulariffin bin Haji Kipli. The champion for Student Under-20 was Mohd Zekree while Veterans above-50 champion was Leong Voon CHoon. Furthermore, winners of the open category of the Inter-school Blitz competition went to Sekolah Menengah Saidina Hassan, ST John and Sekolah Menengah Jamalul Alam for the top three respectively. Sekolah Menengah Saidina Hassan won Champion for the Best School Award for the Chess Tournament.

img_1368On the other hand, the winners for Tamiya Super Series competition were Mohammad Asnol, Zulfakri and Mohammad Juntao, bringing home trophies, medals and Tamiya kits. Winners for Hot wheels challenges were divided into 4 categories: Champion Under 35g category went to Mohd Johli; Under 50g category went to Dini, whereas Hafuza bagged the Championship for Under 65g category as well as Open category..
